#FirstTimeIwasHarassed is a hashtag that widely spread in 2017 on social media in Egypt, and provided a plethora of testimonies on sexual harassment in Egypt. This huge amount of data provided invaluable insights into a traditionally silenced topic – sexual harassment and abuse against children. This report is based on the research of Harassmap, a volunteer-based initiative fighting against the cause. The report explores the trends emanating from #FirstTimeIwasHarassed so as to shed light on the lived experiences of children subjected to sexual violence situating Egypt in the global context of hashtag activism on gender-based violence issues. Quantitative and qualitative content can be seen throughout the work presented.
